LSMO started monthly educational meetings since 1997. These meetings are very popular at the local level and are prepared and presented in turn by Lebanese oncologists. They consist of presenting the latest management guidelines and updates. They are presented on an average of one meeting every two months, they are CME credited and well attended by all medical oncologists and hematologists in Lebanon.
It also started an annual “LSMO meeting” since 1997 which became an annual tradition ever since. International speakers are regularly featured from Europe, USA and Arab countries. The meetings became very famous in the Middle East and are actively attended by Lebanese as well as Arab Oncologists.
LSMO used to organize the “American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Highlights” from 1997 till 2005. Then, the ASCO started its "Best of ASCO" program in 2005. LSMO’s ex-president, Pr. Nagi El-Saghir and many of his international colleagues in the committee lobbied successfully for the approval of “Best of ASCO” to be organized outside of the United States and it was started in 2006. LSMO was the pioneer to make Lebanon one of the first countries to host Best of ASCO, along with Japan and Mexico. Till now, LSMO organizes successfully and on a yearly basis the Best of ASCO meetings that are widely attended from Lebanese and Arab oncologists.
LSMO believes in teamwork and mutual collaborations as a way to achieve better medical knowledge and better functioning of the healthcare system to achieve better patients care.
